Brachioplasty, more commonly referred to as an arm lift, is a procedure to remove excess skin and fat of the upper arm and sometimes the forearm.      This excess skin and fat is more common in women and tends to be hereditary.  This excess skin is sometimes referred to as "bat wings".  Excess skin in this area may also occur after loss of a large amount of weight.      A Brachioplasty procedure usually takes about an hour per arm, slightly longer of work in the forearm area is needed.  The procedure is customarily performed under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia with sedation may also be used.    Recovery time varies by individual.  Most of our patients are back to work in approximately one week and able to resume more strenuous activity within three to four weeks.  Arms are usually bandaged in compressive wraps for several weeks following the procedure.    While we strive to minimize complications and maximize patient satisfaction, we would be remiss if we did not remind you that there may be side effects and there are risks.  These are discussed more fully during your consultation.    For additional information on Brachioplasty or to schedule a consultation please contact us at 520/297-3300 or by e-mail.   Additional Resources:     Frequently Asked Questions - Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)     American Society of Plastic Surgery Arm Lift web site.
