Mastopexy (mas'to-pek-se), more commonly referred to as a breast lift, is a procedure to raise and reshape breasts that may be sagging or drooping.  We are able to accomplish this by removing excess skin and repositioning the remaining tissue and nipples to create a more youthful appearing breast shape.

    This procedure is performed for a variety of reasons, including the after effects of excessive weight gain and subsequent loss, pregnancy, nursing or simply in an effort to delay the natural effects of gravity.   As the breast continues to sag, it puts increasing strain at the shoulder strap line due to the increasing weight in the cup of the bra.  This increased weight must be supported by the shoulders.  Drooping or sagging breasts can often wrongly suggest aging in an otherwise youthful, healthy woman.  We have found that many women are unaware that there is a procedure to lift sagging breasts and help eliminate the shoulder strap strain.

    Breast lift surgery may be performed alone, but many of our patients with smaller breasts combine this procedure with breast augmentation to increase breast size.

    Breast lift surgery may be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia depending on patient preference.

    Our patients usually return to work in approximately one week with a return to more strenuous activity in one month.   The scarring may take between several months to a year to fade.

    While we strive to minimize complications and maximize patient satisfaction, we would be remiss if we did not remind you that as with any surgery, there may be side effects and there are risks.  These will be discussed during your consultation.
