RhinoplastyRhinoplasty (ri'no-plas"te) is the technical term for nose surgery. This surgery can be performed to meet aesthetic goals by reshaping the nose to reduce or increase size, removing a hump, changing the shape of the tip or bridge, narrowing the nostril span or changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip or for reconstructive purposes by improving certain breathing problems. This procedure is one of the most common in the field of plastic surgery. It is a complex procedure performed through small surgical incisions inside the nose.Generally, this procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in one or two hours. Anesthesia may be local with sedation or general, depending on patient preference. We instruct our patients they will be back to work in one to two weeks and may resume more strenuous activities in two to three weeks. A splint may be required to be worn on the top of the nose if a considerable amount of bone work is performed. Internal nasal packing may also be required if breathing problems have been corrected. These packs are usually removed within several days after surgery. While we strive to minimize complications and maximize patient satisfaction, we would be remiss if we did not remind you that as with any surgery, there may be side effects and there are risks. These will be discussed more fully during your consultation. For more information on rhinoplasty or to schedule a consultation, please contact us at 520/297-3300 or by e-mail.Additional Reference:American Society of Plastic Surgery's rhinoplasty web page.Home Profile Location Procedures Gallery Q & A |
