What might this procedure do for me?

This procedure reduces or increases the size of the nose or may be performed to remove a bump, narrow the span of the nostrils, change the shape and size of the tip or to straighten a crooked nose. This procedure may also be performed to improve breathing.

How long do the results last?

This procedure is permanent.

How long is the surgery?

The surgery will take about 2 hours.

What will my recovery be like?

You may have a splint on your nose for protection for one week and packing inside the nose for several days following surgery. You must keep your head elevated and use cold compresses for 48 hours following your procedure. Most of the swelling and bruising will disappear within 1-2 weeks and all swelling will resolve within 4-6 months.

Will I have restrictions after the procedure?

You should avoid vigorous activities for about 1-2 weeks.

When will I be back to work?

You will be able to return to work in 1 week.

Where is the surgery performed?

Dr. Hess performs the majority of his procedures at Northwest Hospital.

What type of anesthesia is used?

General anesthesia (asleep) is the choice of most patients.

Where will the scars be?

The scars will be located inside the nose and across the columella (between your nostrils).

What are the risks?

While complications infrequent, the risks include infection, bleeding and scarring, as with all surgical procedures.
